Why I'm Eating More Organic Food, And How To Make The Most Of It

My wife Becki and I are really starting to eat healthier - not just the kinds of foods we're eating, but also the fact that we're eating more organic foods. I know that a lot of traditional health and fitness type people don't make a big deal about this, but I do, and I'll tell you why:

You are what you eat, and if you eat food that is full of toxins, your body will be full of toxins too.

It's a pretty simple concept, really, but for some reason people often seem to forget about it, or ignore it completely. I'm not ignoring it - in fact, after doing a cleanse a few years ago to help get rid of toxins in my body and the amazing results I had from it, I'm convinced that the toxins that find their way into our bodies are a huge factor in our overall health and well-being.

Our livers are our natural detoxification organs, right? Well, our livers are also the center of fat metabolization. Right now, they're over burdened with all of the toxins that are constantly coming their way, and they start losing their ability to burn fat anymore.

So let's see... be a blubberous toxic waste-dump? Or be a fit and clean eating machine?  ...hmmm... which would you rather be?

How We're Making The Most of our Organic Foods?

It's not always easy to start eating much, much healthier than you have been for the last few months, but I've always been a fan of going cold turkey... diving into the deep end... going balls to the wall, so to speak.

So what we're doing to get all of our healthy, nutritious foods into our diet is making smoothies. Multiple smoothies per day, as a matter of fact.

We simply bought what we basically think is the best blender for smoothies we've ever seen - especially for the price! So we just toss in some greens, a little juice, some almond butter and flax seed for fiber, maybe a little vegetarian protein powder, and then something to make it taste okay (blueberries are one of the best ways to go that we've seen) and you're off and running. That's two of the three meals we eat in a day.

Other than that, we are also using our awesome blender to make quinoa flour, to do things like make home-made nutmilk, and even make veggie juice.

Just some of the ways we're adding lots of healthy, green, organic foods to our lives, and will clear out our livers and boost our metabolisms in the process.

Awesome New Blender For The Green Kitchen

After a lot of thinking and evaluating, between all the different kitchen gadgets and gizmos that are out there these days, we've come to the conclusion that nothing - not one single thing out there - is as necessary for a great detox as a truly amazing blender.

It wasn't a simple decision though. There are lots of things that help you with your detox, and one great gadget really came close. That's right, we almost bought a juicer.

I've never owned a juicer before, but we were tempted to get one. Becki really doesn't like it when she gets lots of seeds in her smoothies, and we just watched the movie, "Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead" where a guy heals his body by consuming nothing but fresh juice made of mostly green veggies. If that movie wasn't motivation to get a juicer, I don't know what is.

However, you're really, really limited to doing nothing with a juicer but making juice.

With a good blender though, you can really do a lot of things. You can make soups, sauces, smoothies, nut butters, healthy flours from things like quinoa or oats, and you can even make juice too! (At least with the help of a sieve and nut-milk bag...)

So we bit the bullet, and purchased an awesome blender. It's an Omniblend, and it's been nothing short of amazing so far. It's built just as well as the Vita-Mix machines, costs half as much, can do it all without having to purchase special blades or containers - we're just so happy with it.

I know this blender will really help when it comes time to eat lots of raw foods when we're on our next whole body cleanse. We can't wait!

Preparing For Our First Juice Cleanse

My wife-to-be Becki and I are preparing for a juice fasting - a kind of detox where you eat nothing but wholesome, fresh vegetable and fruit juices. We came up with the idea after viewing Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead.

We don't really know what to expect from this juice cleanse. I’ve done a detox before, including what I think is the best cleanse ever (The Clean Program), but the fasting part was all smoothies, and you still got to eat one solid meal each day.

I’m concerned cause I think the juice won't work as well as the smoothies, since my blood sugar likes to get screwy some times. All the fiber of the fruits and veggies stay in the smoothies but not in the juices. This helps to regulate blood sugar levels, and keeps you full longer.

I’m a worried that simply juicing the fruits and veggies will make my blood sugar rocket up, and then plummet. If that happens though, I suppose I can always switch back to making smoothies. After all, I didn't buy the best blender on the market for making smoothies for nothing, right?

But I like to try new things, so we're going to go ahead and do it. I had the same attitude going into the Clean detox and it ended up being great for me. I'm hoping this one will be as well.
